NEWPORT NEWS - James Archie Cornette, 86, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 1995. He was a native of Flat Ridge, Va., and has been a Peninsula resident since 1929.

Mr. Cornette graduated as valedictorian of his class in 1928 from Oak Hill Academy, Mouth of Wilson, Va. He retired in 1973 from Newport News Shipbuilding, after 44 years service as a lead staff supervisor in the accounting department. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

He is survived by one son, James A. Cornette Jr. of Newport News; two brothers, Dean Cornette of Louisville, Ky., and Glenn Cornette of New Albany, Ind.; two sisters, Susan Bonham of Sugar Grove, Va., and Verna Anderson of Marion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Handy Cornette, and a brother, Wayne Cornette.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, with Dr. J. Walter Martin officiating. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park.

Arrangements by W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
