• Obituary: Amiareillo Globe News: Amarillo, Potter CO, TX. ³ Robert "Bobby" Eugene Cornett, 82, of Groom died Wednesday, April 1, 2009, in Odessa.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church in Groom. Burial will be in Groom Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Bobby was born June 9, 1926, in Groom to William and Arizona Cornett, who were early settlers in the Texas Panhandle. He was a lifelong resident of Groom.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a nose gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber. Upon returning after the war, he worked for Murphy-Spicer Funeral Directors before starting with the U.S. Postal Service.

He worked at the Groom Post Office for 41 years, serving as Groom's postmaster for nearly 20 years. He served on the Groom City Council and Groom Independent School District school board, and was the secretary/treasurer for First Baptist Church in Groom.

Bobby was a supporter of all local activities and athletic events.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Aileene; and a brother, Billy.

Survivors include two sons, Wesley and wife Rhonda of Tomah, Wis., and Terry and wife Becky of Lansing, Kan.; a daughter, Carmen Podzemny and husband Mike of Odessa; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Lynda Summers and husband Max.
