• Obituary. Graveside services with a military salute for Richard "Rick" Carter will be held at Kuttawa Cemetery, Kuttawa, KY on Friday, February 13, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Dunn's Funeral Home of Eddyville, KY is in charge of the arrangements.

Rick died Friday, February 6, 2009 at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 86. He was born October 2, 1922 in Kuttawa, KY, where he was raised. He was one of nine children of Lawrence Curtis and Pearl Hamilton Carter. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Russell "Ott", John "Big John", Otis "Ode", and Hugh "Boone" Carter; one sister, Naomi Petty, and his first wife, Jane Carter. Rick was a combat World War II Veteran, serving in the Navy with his twin brother, Russell. Following his discharge from the Navy, Rick and Russell operated Carter Brothers Logging for many years. Rick was considered to be one of Northern California's best timber fallers during his working years. He was a past member of the Ukiah Masonic Lodge and was a member of the Sioux Falls, Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Rick is survived by his wife, Bonnie Carter of Lennox, SD; three sons: Richard (Judy) Carter of Ukiah, John Carter of Napa, and Howard Carter of Ukiah; two grandchildren, Jason (Nicole) Carter of Los Osos, CA and Jill (Jesse) Damian of Redwood Valley; three great-grandchildren, Weston Carter and Olivia and Gabriella Damian; one brother, Lawrence "Bim" (Betty) Carter of Roseburg, OR; sisters, Clara (John) Lawson of Redding, CA and Mary Rose Katschke of Anderson, CA; stepsons Jeff (Jennifer) Rickard of Ukiah and Dave (June) Rickard and their children, Katelyn, Karissa, and Kole of Sioux Falls.

Rick will be remembered as a kind father, fun-loving grandpa, wonderful husband with a generous heart, great sense of humor, and his great love for God.

No services will be held in Ukiah. Memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
