Emmett Curtis Jones, 74, of Rock, died Sunday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Melvin of Glen Lyn, Va. after a long illness. He was born at Grayson County, Va. He was the son of the late Ambrose and Sarah Jones.
He was a retired miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 6026 of Coalwood.
Survivors include his wife, Lutie Huffman Jones; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Thorne of Bluefield, Mrs. Thelma Melvin of Glen Lyn, Va., and Mrs. Helen Griffith of DeLong, Ill.; four sons, Ambrose Jones of Pennsylvania, Rev. Grover Jones of Miracle Valley, Ariz., James Jones of Bluefield and Tommy Jones of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Oscar Jones of Crumpler, N. C.; a sister, Mrs. Jasper Cooms of Pinoak; 29 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Upper Room, Princeton, with Rev. Leonard Repass officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Narrows, Va.
Friends may call at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell after 5 p.m. today.
