Floyd H. Ward, 71, of Comers Rock, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 1984, in the Alleghany Memorial Hospital, Sparta, N.C. He was born Sept. 26, 1913, in Comers Rock, to A. A. Ward and Bedella Hackler Ward. He was a retired farmer, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and a charter member of Grayson Post 7726, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ora Cornett Ward; and two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Livingston, Dun Loring, Va., and Mrs. Mary L. Martin, Elk Creek. Services were held Thursday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. in the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Pedro Salazar and the Rev. Ronald W. Burgess officiating. Interment followed in the Comers Rock Cemetery. Military rites were conducted at the gravesite by Grayson Post 7726, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorial contributions may be made to the Independence Rescue Squad or Alleghany Memorial Hospital. Published in the Galax Gazette; Fri., Oct. 5, 1984. Floyd married Ora Marie Cornett, daughter of Everett Floyd Cornett and Geneva Margaret Mann, on 27 Nov 1948 in Grayson Co., VA.1 (Ora Marie Cornett was born on 13 May 1921 in Grayson Co, VA 2 5 10 and died on 16 Dec 2011 in Sullivan Co, TN 5 10.)
