• Obituary: Roanoke Times. Ora Cornett Ward, 90, of Bristol, Tenn., and formerly of the Comers Rock Community of Grayson County, passed away Friday, December 16, 2011, at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Ohlene and Jack Forrester, Bristol, Tenn. She was born May 13, 1921, at Comers Rock to the late Everett Cornett and Geneva Mann Cornett; and was also predeceased by her husband, Floyd Ward; one sister, Ruby Anderson; and a brother, Dickie Cornett. Surviving are two brothers, Claude Cornett and wife, Libby, of Baltimore, Md., and Wayne Cornett and wife, Ruby, of Rural Hall, N.C.; one sister, Ohlene Forrester and husband, Jack, of Bristol, Tenn.; one niece, Karen Jacobs; and five nephews. The body is resting at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2011, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Comers Rock, with the Rev. Pedro Salazar and the Rev. Bill Shupe officiating. Interment to follow in Comers Rock Cemetery, Comers Rock. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Elk Creek Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 130, Elk Creek, VA 24326; or Elk Creek Vol. Fire Dept., P.O. Box 36, Elk Creek, VA 24326. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, is in charge of arrangements.
