• Obituary: Freemont Tribune, 18 Oct 2005, Madison Co, NE. 5 Clarence W. Cornett, 88, of Wisner died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at Wisner Care Center.
He was born July 27, 1917, in Meadow Grove to Stephan Rush and Celia (Hale) Cornett. He attended rural schools in Stanton County and graduated from Pilger High School in 1937. He married Freida Brundieck on Feb. 13, 1938, in Altona. He worked as a farm hand near Pilger until moving to Long Beach, Calif., in 1941. He was employed in the shipyards and later ran a filling station before returning to the Pilger area in 1948. They farmed for 18 years. He went on to attend the Lutheran Laymen's Institute in Milwaukee. In 1969, they moved to Saskatchewan, Canada, and he served as a lay pastor until retiring. In 1988, they returned to Wisner to be closer to family and three years ago entered the Wisner Care Center.
He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wisner and the Lutheran Laymen's League in Pilger.
Survivors include: his wife; children, Carolyn (and husband, Joseph) Hu of Cheyenne, Wyo., Ron (and wife, Karen) Cornett of Norfolk, Nadene (and husband, Norm) Schell of Omaha and Wayne (and wife, Arvilla) Cornett of Wisner; a brother, Milan Cornett of Redmond, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers (including one in infancy), an infant sister and a granddaughter.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wisner with the Rev. James P. Carretto officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Kuzelka-Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to service time at the church. Burial will be in Pilger Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to The Lutheran Hour Ministries or other Lutheran charities.
