Paule J. Wingate

• Obituary: Galax Gazette, 12 Dec 2003, Galax Co, VA. ² Paul J. Wingate, 92, of Independence, passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at his home.
He was born Sept. 1, 1911, in Grayson County. He was the son of the late Richard Elmore and America Virginia Halsey Wingate. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia McKnight.
He was a retired farmer and member of First Baptist Church, Independence.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Stone Wingate of the home; two daughters, Mava Wingate of Salem and Emily Watts and husband Aubrey of Charlottesville; two grandchildren, A. Vernon Watts III of Vicenza, Italy, and Barbara Watts of Washington, D.C.; and one brother, Hobert B. Wingate of Independence.
A funeral was held Tuesday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, with burial in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Jeff Harris officiated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Independence Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 607, Independence, Va. 24348; or First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 307, Independence, Va. 24348.

Paule married Edna Stone, daughter of Winton Gustavus Stone and Mittie D. Cornett, on 15 Feb 1948 in Grayson Co., VA.¹ (Edna Stone was born on 4 Sep 1911 in Grayson Co, VA ³ and died on 21 Mar 2019 in Grasyon Co, VA ⁴.)
