• Obituary: Roanoke Times, 17 Feb 2004, Roanoke Co, VA. HAMMOND, Georgia StoneGeorgia Stone Hammond, 100, of Wytheville died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Gustus and Mittie Cornett Stone. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Wytheville and was preceded in death by her husband, Godfrey James "Shorty" Hammond, daughter Mary Cowley and brother Herman Stone. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Garlen Callahan, of Pulaski, Nancy Wyatt of Richmond, Suella and Maurice Cantrell of Hendersonville, TN.; sister, Edna Wingate of Salem; son-in-law, Bengamin Cowley of Elkton MD.; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral service will be Tuesday 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Dan Ferrell with the interment in the West End cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Grubb Funeral Home Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
