• Obituary: Mansfield News Journal, 1 Aug 2006, Rowan CO, NC. 4 MANSFIELD -- Former Mansfield resident Arthur B. 'Art' Porter, 84, of Olive Hill, Ky., died Saturday, July 29, 2006, at Saint Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Now home with the Lord, Mr. Porter was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Carter County, Ky., and is a son of the late Reece D. and Lena Pelfrey Porter.
ADVERTISEMENT Art moved back to Kentucky after retiring from the General Motors Corporation in Mansfield, Ohio, where he had worked many years in the parts assembly department.
He served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II. A Christian, he attended Hannah Road Church of God in Mansfield and Porter Creek Church of God in Olive Hill.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Monnie Bradley Porter; son, Edward Bradley; brother, Marlin Porter; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Beulah and Jess Roe, Jewell and Dan Eden, Ruby and Allen Smith, Pearl and Andy Mays, Minnie Maxine Porter.
He is survived by daughter, Pauline Newell of Mansfield; brother and two sisters-in-law, Jess 'Hardy' and Bonnie Porter of Olive Hill and June Porter of Elliott County, Ky.; four grandchildren, Bill and Michelle Bradley, Tim and Diane Sublett, Stella and Bob Woodyard, Connie and Donald McKenzie all of Mansfield; 11 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends, who will sadly miss him.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at the Hannah Road Church of God, Hannah Road, Mansfield, with Brother Johnny Austin Carter and Brother Floyd Scaggs officiating. Burial will follow at Franklin Church Cemetery, Franklin Church Road, Mansfield. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at the Hannah Road Church. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
