• Obituary: Roanoke Times: Roanaoke Co., VA. Aileene Elliott VanHoy, 89, of Roanoke, passed away April 16, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She joined her Lord in heaven and the love of her life, her husband, George Otis VanHoy. Also preceding her in death are her parents, Elbert Marion Elliott and Mertie Beatrice Reeves Elliott; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Wanda and Rex Delp, Clara and Hal Allred, Attro and Clarence Cox, and Thelma Elliott; one brother and his wife, Walter and Treva Elliott; and a favorite niece, Evelyn Mitchell.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her devoted son, Kent VanHoy and his wife, Ann; two adored granddaughters, Dawn Field and her husband Richard, and Kristi VanHoy; a close nephew and his wife, J.C. and May Cox, who have been such a blessing to Aileene; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom she loved dearly.
She also leaves behind her "adopted sister" at Richfield's Joseph C. Thomas Center, Bertha McGeorge; wonderful neighbors, and many friends from her Sunday School class and church.
Aileene was born April 11, 1918 in Independence, Va. She and Otis married in 1942 after she graduated as salutatorian of her class in Galax, Virginia. She retired from Kenrose in Roanoke after 35 years of service. Aileene was a devoted member of Cave Spring Baptist Church for more than 50 years. Her greatest pleasures in life were her family and her Lord.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Hess and his staff at Lewis-Gale Oncology Center; Dr. Barnhart; the dedicated and skilled staff at Richfield's Joseph C. Thomas Center for Assisted Living; and to Dr. Fintel and Good Samaritan Hospice Care.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at Oakey's South Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2007, at Cave Spring Baptist Church. Pastor Chip Roberson and Jim Reeves, Minister to Senior Adults will officiate. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens on Airport Road.
