• Obituary: Smyth County New and Messenger, 15 Sep 2005, Smyth CO, VA. Irene Taylor Brewer, 88, a resident of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Independence, and formerly of Sugar Grove, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005 at the center.
She was born April 7, 1917, at Comers Rock to Wiley M. and Cora Hackler Cornett.
She was the widow of Wilson Brewer. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Larry Taylor and Charles E. Taylor.
Her survivors include: two daughters-in-law, Wanda Taylor Fritz, Lutz, Fla., and Bonnie E. Taylor, Tavares, Fla., two step-daughters, Mary Wilck, Palmyra, N.Y., and Linda Matthews, Baltimore, Md.; four stepsons, Donald Brewer and Jesse Brewer, both of Bel Air, Md., Ray Brewer, Churchville, Md., and Paul Brewer, Whiteford, Md.; three grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; and 26 step-great-great grandchildren.
The funeral service was conducted Monday, Sept. 12, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence with the Rev. Don Medley officiating. The burial was private.
