• Obituary: Port Arthur News, 13 Apr 2007, Jefferson CO, TX. 1 GROVES - Addie Newman, 90, of Groves, Texas died Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Magnolia Manor. Addie was born on June 8, 1916 in Mornings Port, Louisiana to Joseph E. Revia and Josephine Payton Revia. She was a lifelong area resident. Having a giving heart, she spent much of her life helping her family when needed. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, gardening, and quilting which she used to bless every child and grandchild in her family. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church for 50 years and attended First Baptist Church of Groves for 10 years. She was a member of the Gray Ladies and worked at St. Mary Hospital and also with the Salvation Army and Red Cross. In 1950 she helped establish the First Baptist Church of Smith Point. For many years Addie showed her many talents by catering weddings, baking wedding cakes and birthday cakes. Addie and Hollis were married for 62 years, they enjoyed going to the beach where they spent many years at their beach cabin with family and friends. So many family gatherings were spent in their back yard enjoying seafood that was so lovingly prepared. Christmas was always special to Addie because she never forgot to bring presents, goodies, and groceries to her brothers and sisters. One of the best stories about Addie was when she found a needy lady at the VA Hospital, she took off her dress and gave it to the lady and then had to wear a tarp from her car. After she had her first stroke and was confined to bed her family came to her rescue. In 1997 her son Tommy passed away and in 1998 Addie and Hollis sold their home and moved to Silsbee. After the death of her husband she became disabled and was confined to a wheelchair, her favorites thing to do was watch THE PRICE IS RIGHT and play dominoes. She spent her last years between Silsbee and Groves with her daughters Jerry and Nancy. In January after having another stroke she moved to Magnolia Manor where many friends and family came to visit. Addie now has gained entrance into heaven and has wings to fly. We are going to miss her terribly but are so happy for her because now she can see and walk which are things she hasn't been able to do for years. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 14, 2007 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas with Dr. Joe Worley officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 13, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis Newman; son, Tommy Newman; sisters, Mary Cartlidge, Edna Gau; brothers, Edgar Revia, Louis Revia, Charlie Revia, George Revia, Bill Revia, and Claude Revia. Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Dodson of Groves, TX and Geraldine Allen and husband, Terry of Silsbee, TX; sister, Lee Nelson of Smith Point, TX; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
