• Obituary: Galveston County Daily News, 5 Sep 2004, Galveston CO, TX. ³ TEXAS CITY - Clifford Wayne Payton passed away, Friday, September 3, 2004. Wayne was born in Texas City, Texas, on August 22, 1952. Wayne was a graduate of Texas City High School Class of 1970, College of Mainland, and was employed by Sterling Chemical. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War and American Legion Post No 89. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Noah Payton, Jr. and Maureen Payton. He is survived by his wife, Toni Marie, of Texas City; daughters, Amy of Austin and Sara of Pearland; son, Andrew of Texas City; brother, Gary Payton and wife Lynn of Santa Fe; in-laws, Tony and Lucy Ozarchuk; brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony and Gloria Montalbano of Houston, John and Shirley Dertzo of Sioux City, IA, Michael and Michelle Ozarchuk of Spring, TX; and numerous relatives and friends. Wayne was an active sports fan and supporter. He served as Past President, Board Member, and Coach of Texas City Little League; Coach and Board Member of Texas City Soccer Club, and member of the Texas City Quarterback Club. He was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque, TX, Monday, September 6, 2004, between the hours of 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2004, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, 724 Third Avenue North, Texas City. Rev. Dominic Pistone of St. Assisi Catholic Church, in Clear Lake, will officiate. Burial will follow the mass at Forrest Park East, Webster, TX. In Lieu of flowers, memorial may be sent to the Wayne Payton Memorial Fund, 2309 16th Ave North, Texas City, TX, 77590.
