• Obituary. ¹ Lawerence Eugene Mahala, age 72, of Maiden passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born April 16, 1939 in Ashe County, he was the son of the late Ballard and Losana M. Mahala. Lawerence was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mamie Ellen Chapman and a brother, Vane Odell Mahala. He is also survived by his wife of 45 years, Marie Canipe Mahala of the home; brother, Billy Dean Mahala of Elkton, MD; niece, Karen Brown of Elkton, MD; three nephews, Jeff Mahala of Rising Son, MD, Barry Mahala of Elkton, MD, Scott Mahala of Rising Son, MD.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Newton with Rev. Holly Cobb Adams officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church.
