• Obituary. ⁴ Beulah Johnson Calhoun, 76, of Crossnore, died Monday, October 25, 2004, at her residence. A native of Avery County, she was a daughter of the late Lillard and Dona Carpenter Johnson. She was a member of the Chestnut Dale Baptist Church and had served as a volunteer at Cannon Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Calhoun was the Owner and Operator of Calhoun's Farm Supply in Newland for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Calhoun, son Jerry Calhoun, and a brother, Lawrence Johnson. Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Calhoun Grinar of Crossnore; daughter in law, Becky Calhoun-Gouge of Mountain City, TN; granddaughters, Wendy Calhoun, and her fiance, Daniel Reams, of Maggie Valley, NC. Quincy Childers, and her husband, Josh, of Hartford, WI. Funeral services for Beulah Johnson Calhoun will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 28, from the Grandfather Chapel of the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Burleson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until the service Thursday evening at the funeral home. Interment and graveside rights will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday morning in the Fork Mountain Cemetery with the Members of the Newland Volunteer Fire Department serving as pallbearers.
