Deloras Mae Rundell

• Obituary. Madras resident Deloras Skeans died July 15, 2002, in Bend following a severe stroke while traveling to Weiser, Idaho. She was 74.
Mrs. Skeans was born Nov. 20, 1927, in Kimball, Neb., to parents Elton Rundell and Elsie Person Rundell. She moved from Albin, Wyo., with her parents to Pinedale, Wyo., in 1933, then to Rainier, Ore., in 1936. She graduated from Rainier Union High School in 1946.
On June 26, 1948, she married high school classmate Charles Skeans and they farmed at Rainier for 10 years. The pair returned to attend Oregon State College in 1957, then moved to Madras in 1959, where Charles taught vocational agriculture.
For 14 years, Deloras was the secretary for the OSU Extension Service at Columbia County, OSU and Jefferson, and later was the water clerk for North Unit Irrigation District. She returned to college to finish her master's degree in education at in Monmouth in 1988, and upon completion taught special education and was the librarian at Madras Elementary School. After retiring in 1990, she and her husband traveled extensively.
Mrs. Skeans was active in the Madras United Methodist Church, was Past Matron of the Concordia Chapter Order of Eastern Star in Madras, and belonged to several motorcycle, motor home and airplane clubs. She was selected Jefferson County Woman of the Year in 1978. Her special interests included collecting glassware, ceramic collectibles and antiques. She enjoyed reading, taking long stays at the beach, and doing special things for her family.
Survivors include her husband Charles Skeans of Madras; son, Michael Skeans, daughter-in-law, Cathy Skeans and grandson, Nickolas Skeans, all of Bend; sister, Barbara Brodersen of Skagway, Alaska; and brother, Dean Rundell of Rainier. She was preceded in death by her mother Elsie Person Rundell; her son Gary Skeans, father Elton Rundell, and stepmother Mary Cowles Rundell.
A memorial service was held July 20, at the Madras United Methodist Church. A private family internment will be at Mt. Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery in Madras. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home of Madras. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Gary Skeans Memorial Scholarship Fund, Madras Branch U.S. Bank, Madras, OR 97741.
