MCCAMEY, TX \emdash Joye Gail Lloyd Welch was called to her Heavenly home on Monday, July 17, 2017, after extended care in the McCamey Hospital and Convalescent Center, McCamey, Texas. She was born August 07, 1924 in Hull, Texas, Liberty County, to James Walter Lloyd and Zena Lockard Lloyd. The Lloyd family moved to Upshur County in 1936 after their father worked in the Spindle Top Oilfield near Beaumont, Texas. Joye attended East Mountain School, Upshur County, graduating in the class of 1941. At the age of sixteen, she was one of the nine Lloyd family siblings graduating from the East Mountain School and continued her clerical education at the Tyler Commercial College in Tyler, Texas.
Survivors include her brother, Herman Lloyd and his wife, Doris, of Abilene, Texas; her sisters, Delores Elwell, Ventura, California and Edna Richie, Hearne, Texas. With many nieces and nephews and a special love for niece, Amy Lloyd Hodson and her husband, Pastor Phil with their children Jonathan and Kellie. Also, a loving sister-in-law, Betty Chronister of White Oak, Texas.
Joye was preceded in death by her husband, son and parents; brothers, Russell, Bobby Joe, and Frank; sisters, Mildred Bagley and Jewel Knowles.
On October 11, 1946 the late Reverend Obie A. Baker married Joye and William Kelly Welch at the East Mountain Baptist Church. Their family home was a welcoming center for their family and friends - birthdays, fish frys, Sunday School Class luncheons, etc. Joye continued opening her home to others after the death of Kelly in July, 1982.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel at 2 PM with Pastor Phil Hodson officiating.
The family would like to invite everyone to stay after the memorial service for a time of remembrance and sharing.
In lieu of flowers and memorials the family request in respect of Joye's love to do an act of kindness for someone in need in her memory.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Greggton prior to her illness in 2004. Joye was a Christian woman and a life-long selfless example of love, generosity, and service to others.
Joye was cremated and buried in the Lakeview Memorial Garden Cemetery next to her loving husband, William Kelly Welch.
Joye is survived by her daughter, Joyce Ann Welch Bates and her husband, Fred Bates Jr. of Crane, Texas, and her daughter-in-law, Cindy Welch, wife of her late son, William "Bill" Harold Welch, of Pearland, Texas. Also, surviving are grandchildren Hillary Bates Foytik and husband, Cory with their children, Hayes and Wyatt of New Braunfels, Texas; Heather Bates Bowles and husband, Grayson with their daughter, Addison Paige of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Heath Bates of Bellville, Texas; Perry Welch and wife, Diane with their daughters, Ivanna Welch and Isabelle Welch of Houston, Texas; John Welch and his sons, William Welch and Benjamin Welch of Marysville, Washington; Aaron Paul Welch of Pearland, Texas; and Dennis Kelly Welch and his wife, Lorrie, of Renton, Washington.
