• Obituary: Greeley Tribune, 24 Jun 2005, Greeley CO, CO. 2 Robert Earl Courtney, 61, of Northglenn died Sunday, June 19, at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton.

He was born July 17, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas, to Earl Willis and Wilma (Collins) Courtney and grew up in New Boston, Texas, where he graduated from high school in 1961.

Mr. Courtney received a bachelor's degree in government and history from East Texas State University in 1965 and attended the University of Texas, Austin. He was an officer in the Air Force from 1967-1980 and attained the rank of major.

After his discharge, he returned to East Texas State and earned a master's degree in psychology in 1986. From 1987-1996, he pursued a doctorate in counseling psychology at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He was a counselor for various institutions and agencies in northern Colorado. At the time of his death, he had a private practice as a personal coach.

Mr. Courtney had avid interests in art, opera, music, cinema, American history and automobiles. He enjoyed political and philosophical discussions, was an active Democrat and an adherent of Buddhist thinking.

Survivors are an aunt, Bernice Phillips of Ozona, Texas; his cousins, Diane Phillips of Estes Park, Corinne Carleton of Midland, Texas, Elaine Carleton of Commerce City and other extended family. His parents are deceased.

An informal memorial gathering of friends and family will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday in Commerce City. For details, call (303) 825-1125.
