• Obituary: The Baytown Sun, 5 Aug 2008, Harris CO, TX. 3 Roberta Dunman Woods, born 1910 in Taft, Texas, departed on Sunday, August 3, 2008.

Mrs. Woods was preceded in death by her husband, W. Wesley Woods; parents, Jim Dunman and Ollie Dunman; sister, Lois McKinney and brother, Cecil Dunman.

Survivors include a sister, Jewel Faye Turner; sons, Glen Woods and Bruce Woods; grandchildren, Lee Ann Woods, Tammy Woods, Jennifer Woods, Holly Woods and Vicky Woods and great-grandchildren, Rachel Shaver, Austin Shaver, Madison Morris, Lindsey Halvorsen and Laurel Halvorsen.

Descended from early Texas pioneers, she had relatives who fought in the Texas War of Independence against Mexico, a grandfather who served with the Confederacy in the Civil War and a father who was one of the early employees of Humble Oil when it started in Humble, Texas. Roberta was a fourth generation descendant from the First Family of Texas, an accredited historical Texas organization. Roberta?s parents, James and Ollie Dunman, were among the first early settlers of Cedar Bayou, Texas, where they moved in 1920. She graduated from Cedar Bayou High School in 1929.

Roberta often recalled her fond memories of playing basketball on the girl?s team at Cedar Bayou and being active in various school theater productions. She was involved in various clubs and organizations after high school, one of which was named The Sew and Chatter Club. It was formed in 1940 to make items for the troops during World War II. Roberta was also a member of the Harris County Camilla Club, a local bridge club, and spent hours making hook rugs with a group of other Baytown women.

As a loving wife and mother she was always known for her gracefulness and charm. In later years she spent her time working in the family business, Woods Home Center, where she managed the gift selection, merchandise display and receiving of merchandise.

The Woods family attended Cedar Bayou Methodist Church and later Grace United Methodist Church, where Glen Woods and Vicky Woods still attend.

A tireless worker, no one could keep up with her. She will be missed?...Her family will have a private family service at a later date.
