DICKINSON \emdash John Edward Van Ness, 61, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2009, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born on June 17, 1947, in Galveston to Delbert and Clementine Van Ness. He served in the U.S. Army having served fifteen months in Germany. He worked for eighteen years at Todd Shipyard in Galveston where he was a boilermaker until the Galveston facility closed. He was currently employed at the University of Texas Medical Branch in League City as a maintenance worker.
John is preceded in death by his son John E. Van Ness, Jr., and his father Delbert Van Ness.
Survivors include his wife of forty years Brenda Van Ness; three sons William C. Van Ness and wife Misty, Brian E. Van Ness and Gregory A. Van Ness all of Dickinson; grandchildren are Madison Van Ness and Tyler Van Ness. He is also survived by his mother Clementine Van Ness and brother Freddy Van Ness of Houston.
The entire Van Ness family wishes to thank AMED Community Hospice of Texas City for their care during his sickness, the Division of Urology at UTMB for all of their support, and the many friends and family who helped us in so many ways.
It was John's wish to be cremated and arrangements were made at Carnes Funeral Home.
John married Brenda Marie Jackson.
