• Obituary: The Elizabethon Star, 17 Mar 2004, Elizabethton, Carter CO, TN. 4 Theodore Freeman Mr. Theodore (Ted) Freeman, 76, 1418 Happy Valley St., Elizabethton, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 in Cannon Memorial Hospital, Avery County, N.C. following an extended illness. A native of Fireco, W.Va., he had resided in Carter County most of his life and was the son of the late Alexander (Eck) and Missouri McKinney Freeman. He was retired from civil service with the V.A. Mountain Home and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. He was also a life member of the D.A.V. Chapter 17, life member of the Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166 and the Elizabethton Senior Citizens. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Johnson Freeman; a son, Randy Freeman, and a brother, George Freeman. Survivors include his stepmother, Sallie Holtsclaw Freeman, Roan Mountain; five brothers, Ray Freeman, of Mary Esther, Fla.; Bob Freeman, of Mountain City; Frank Freeman, of Petersburg, Ala.; Garfield Freeman and Buster Freeman, both of Roan Mountain, and five sisters, Myrtle Birchfield, Roan Mountain; Mable Gouge, Hampton; Barbara McKinney, Roan Mountain; Pat Chambers, of Edgewater, Fla., and Kathy Storie, of Jonesborough. Several nieces and nephews and special friends on Williamson Avenue and Happy Valley Street also survive. Ted enlisted in the Army in 1948 and achieved the rank of Corporal. He served as a Medic in Korea, where he was wounded in action. He received the Purple Heart and other medals as a result of his courage. The funeral service for Mr. Theodore (Ted) Freeman will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004 in Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Owens and Rev. Tull Oaks Jr. officiating. Music will be by Bellview Baptist Church. The graveside service and burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2004 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be Michael McKinney, Chad McKinney, Tim Freeman, Dean Freeman, Jerome Storie, Bob Guinn and Tom Guinn. The family will receive friends at the Grace Baptist Church from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. on Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
