bullet  General Notes:

In an account written by their son, Freeman D. Green, in Albuquerque,
New Mexico August 3, 1923, Reason Green and Martha Ann Rogers were
married in 1822 and moved to Texas on their honeymoon and settled on
the lower Trinity River where Reason built a "camp" that became known
as "Green's Ferry" after Reason launched a flat-boat into the Trinity
to get himself and others across the river.

Found various accounts of Reason founding the settlement called Green's Bluff
at the site of present-day Orange, Texas, on the banks of the Sabine River.

Reason was granted a league of land (4428 acres) north of Liberty,
Texas August 26, 1835 by the General Land Office of Texas.

Reason also registered league surveys in Williamson County (Georgetown area)
and Callahan County (east of Abilene).

Reason served in Sam Houston's army during the war for Texas independence
from Mexico. Detailed to take the women and children across the Sabine
river to Louisiana, he missed the final battle at San Jacinto.

Reason published the following notice in the Houston Morning Star newspaper,
September 21, 1844:

"Premeditated Murder--Committed on the 8th inst., by one John ARNOLD
on Wm. STEPHENSON, a citizen of West Liberty. The said ARNOLD is
about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 10 inches high, dark complexion,
a large Roman nose, quick and fine spoken. It is believed that
ARNOLD is not his name, it is supposed his name is GORMOND. A
reasonable reward will be paid to anyone who will apprehend the said
ARNOLD. Reason GREEN. 9/21/1844:4"
