Born June 8, 1926, in Carthage, Ill., he was the son of W. A. and Lydia Akers Vance. On June 10, 1973, he married Leora M. Worrell

Mr. Vance began his chiropractic practice in Keokuk on March 10, 1953, and served the Tri-State area until his retirement.

He graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic on Feb. 26, 1953. He loved chiropractic and enjoyed seeing people get well. He was a charter member of the American Chiropractic Association and a charter member of the Chiropractic Society of Iowa. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of Hamilton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5256 and the Keokuk American Legion Post. He was a 50-year member of Denver Lodge 464 in Denver, Ill., Gate City Chapter 7, Royal Arch Masons, Damancers Commandery 5m Knights Templain, Apolla Council in Keokuk, Valley of Quincy Consistory, KAABA Shrine in Davenport and Order of the Eastern Star. He served as District Deputy Grand Master of the Seventh Western District of the State of Illinois in 1982 and 1983. He was also a member of the Past Masters and Past Commanders of the York Rite, State of Iowa. He served as captain of the Keokuk Chief Patrol for the Keokuk Shriners.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Aimee Vance Woodworth of Mendon, Ill.; six sons, Ronald Vance of San Diego, John Vance of Keokuk, Donald Vance of Davenport, Laurant "Lonnie" Vance and Rodney Vance, both of Iowa City, and David Vance of Florida; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage, with family meeting friends from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Masonic funeral service for Mr. Vance will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage, with the Denver Masonic Lodge officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery in rural Carthage, with full graveside military services.

A memorial has been established for Denver Masonic Lodge 464 A.F. and A.M.
