He was born in Danville, VA December 6, 1926, son of Oakley T. and Jessie Lowman Howard. He served in World War II in the Pacific Arena and delighted in relating the events at Pearl Harbor on V.J. Day. He enjoyed camping with his family, photography and traveling in the U.S. and Canada. He was a graduate from Virginia Tech and went to work for the DuPont Company in Martinsville, VA, later transferred to Charlotte, NC, then to Wilmington, DE. He was with the company more than 30 years. He was active in Amity Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC and Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, DE, serving as both Deacon and Elder in both churches.
