• Obituary: Southwest Times, 2 Jul 1929, Pulaski Co., VA. Body Found At Radford Identified By Husband

Mrs. Clayton Williams Is Believed To Have Jumped From Bridge

LEFT TRAIN NO. 16 WHILE ON WAY HOME

CLAYTON WILLIAMS, of of Devon, W. Va., last night identified the body found in New river yesterday below Radford as that of his wife, Florence Lester Williams, 23, who is believed to have committed suicide shortly after eleven o'clock Friday night by leaping from the bridge on the outskirts of Radford.

Mrs. Williams, who before, her marriage was Florence Lester, of Dublin, was expected home Saturday by her parents to visit them over the week-end. It is believed that the woman left No. 16 Friday night at Radford and ended her life shortly afterwards. A wrist watch showed that it had stopped at 11:15

Williams was in Radford visiting his parents and viewed the body after it was learned that his wife had not arrived at Dublin to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Lester. It was stated today that the couple was estranged, Mrs. Williams working in a doctor's office at Welch, W. Va.

A person answering Mrs. Williams description was reported to have been seen on the bridge by motorists. She was known to have been despondent but friends are unable to tell why she took her life. The body was discovered early yesterday morning by sanddredgers and was removed to Radford undertaking establishment until identification could be made.

Mrs. Williams is survived by sisters and two brothers: Mrs. J F. Ritter, Hampton, N. C.; Mrs. Sam Wilson, Salem; Mrs. C. L Craig, Christiansburg; Mrs. Clarence Graham, Radford; Mrs. J. B Brillheart, Kittie. and Ocie Williams; Mrs. B. M. Anderson, of Dublin, and Herman Williams, Williamson; W. Va. and Howard Williams.

Dublin Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Anderson home in Dublin with the Rev S. O. Frye in charge. Interment will be in Cecil's cemetery near Dublin.

Mr. and Mrs Lester, the woman's parents, are well known in this section, and the death of their daughter has cast a pall of gloom over the entire community.
