Hugh L. Smith Jr., 78, of Clinton, died Tuesday March 2, 2004, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge.
Born July 6, 1925, in Campbell County, he was the son of Hugh L. Smith Sr. and Julie Muray Smith.
His family said he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Smith; two brothers, Olof Smith and John D. Smith; and by two sisters, Ocie Wood and Leona Duncan.
Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Dennis Smith and wife, Barbara, of Plainfield, Ill.; his daughter, Debbie Lane and husband, Ron, of Lebanon; a brother, Conda "Dawton," of Clinton; three sisters, Ruby, Almeda and Reva Smith, of Clinton; and by three grandchildren, three great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2004, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Jim McPherson and the Rev. Mike Thompson officiating.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home
