• Obituary: Galax Gazette: Grayso. Cause of death: Tuberculosis.

Elmer Price Comer, youngest son of Mrs. Hettye Cornett Comer and the late Dow Comer was born at Comers Rock, Va., October 29, 1918, and on July 24, 1946, at 6 p.m., he quietly passed to the Great Beyond to join the dear ones, who were waiting for him.

He was united in marriage to Miss June Umberger of Wytheville, Va., June 3, 1944.

He was happily converted early in life and although he never united with any one church, he was a lover of all churches and gave his presence and services in a most gracious and willing manner. He often remarked that he liked to go and hear all preachers who held fast to that which was good.

His father, one brother, Lowell, a sister, Reka, and a baby sister, preceded him in death. Surviving are the wife, mother and one brother, Chandler.

Price was an exceptionally quiet, conscientious, kind, industrious, obedient and considerate boy. He was always trying to make things pleasant for his mother and friends. His faults were so small and so insignificant when compared with the good qualities he manifested in his short but useful life, that they are to us, overshadowed and non-existent.

The last several years of Price's life were ones of suffering but he was never known to murmur or complain, always looking on the brighter side of life.

It seemed he had much to live for, a faithful loving wife, mother and brother, who did all that earthly hands could do to comfort him and make life pleasant, but their arms were too short to help when God said, "Come up higher, above all suffering and worldly troubles." He often expressed his desire to live and did everything possible to be strong and well, but when the end came, he told his mother he was happy.

Twenty-seven years, eight months and twenty-five days seem a short life. Yet Price did a lot of living during that time. He lived it well. He appreciated the good things of life and his unselfish spirit won its way into the hearts of the many friends with whom he came in contact.

He enjoyed the many visits his friends paid him during his illness. They brought cheer and happiness, but somehow the visitors always felt like it was a blessed benediction to visit him and felt like they were the receiver of the joy and pleasure of the visits.

His tender sympathy, his helpful hands and his Christian influence have reached many hearts and brightened many lives. He will be missed by many people, but there is a beautiful side to death when one is ready as Price was. It is only a gateway to a beautiful life beyond, a life everlasting.

He needs no lengthy eulogy of written pages. He has written them beautifully after God's own pattern.

Published in the Galax Gazette; Thurs., Aug. 8, 1946.
