Thomas William Reed WWI Draft Registration Card

Thomas William (Will) Reed was the husband of Katie Laura Means. This draft registration card was completed during phase one of the World War I civilian draft registration process, in June, 1917.

The home address on line 2 is "College Station, Texas". The date of birth on line is April 27, 1892. The response to the citizenship question on line 4 is "National Borne".

Line 5, indicating the applicants place of birth, says "College Sta., Texas, USA". Line 6, applicable to non-citizens, is blank.

Line 7, present occupation, says "Farming". Line 8 gives his employer as "Animal Husbandry Dep". It is known that Will worked for Texas A&M College during this time period. The place of employment on the card is "College Station".

Line 9, the question regarding dependents, says "Wife and 3 Children". Line 10, marital status and race, indicates "Married" and "Caucasian".

Line 11, the question about prior military service, indicates that Will had not served in the military. Line 12, the exemption question, indicates that he claimed an exemption from the draft based upon his dependent wife and children.

On the reverse side of the card, we can read that Will was of medium height and build. The eye color says "Blue". The hair color is "Brown".

Will's signature at the bottom of the card is clearly legible.
