Sam Nicholson WWI Draft Registration Card

Sam Nicholson, Jr. was the son of Sam Nicholson and Nancy Ann Lowery, and the husband of Johnnie Robert Lantrip. This draft registration card was completed during phase one of the registration process, on June 15, 1917, when Sam was 29 years old.

Sam indicates that he was born in Milam County, Texas and lived in Milano with a wife and three children. He was a farmer, self-employed, and his farm was in Hoyte. He claimed an exemption from the draft, "on acct. of dependents".

The reverse side of the card indicates that Sam was tall and slender, with grey eyes and light hair.

Of interest on this card is the signature of the registrar, Sam Nicholson, Sr., the registrant's father! Thus, in one image we have captured the signatures of father and son, a rare treat in the pursuit of family history!
