Charles Weldon Shirley Draft Card

Weldon Shirley was Jennifer's uncle, the husband of her aunt Nell Nicholson Shirley. His draft card is dated October 16, 1940, and was completed in Houston, Texas. He was 33 years old, born in Cushing, Texas, and living in Houston. He was employed by Houston Slush Pump Repair Company, the same company that employed Marcus (Cotton) Cunningham. Cotton, whose draft card can also be seen here, married Nell's twin sister Bernice (Bun) Nicholson.

Weldon listed his father in law, Jennifer's grandfather Sam Nicholson, as the person who would alway know his address. Sam Nicholson lived on Panama Street in Houston's near north side at that time.

Weldon was six feet tall and weighed 185 pounds, with gray-green eyes, brown and gray hair and a light complexion.
